2NE1 Dara Rubs Elbows with Korean and Filipino Presidents at State Banquet

Before she was a member of YG Entertainment's powerful girl group 2NE1, Sandara Park had made quite a name for herself in the Philippines.

Nearly a decade after moving to the tropical nation, she auditioned for and participated in a talent search reality show, Star Circle Quest, where she eventually finished in second place. Although she did not win, her popularity at that point was undeniable and Dara went on to do commercial endorsements, star in several movies and TV shows, and also kickstart her music career.

After returning to Korea in 2007, she signed with YG Entertainment, and as they say, the rest is history.

Because the Philippines are so near and dear to her heart, and was essential to her start in the entertainment industry, Dara is often seen engaged in activities between her second home and native Korea.

On October 17, this was no different. The 2NE1 member was a special guest at a state banquet hosted by Korean President Park Geun Hye in honor of Benigno S. Aquino III, the President of the Philippines.

The event served as a way for Korea to recognize the growing relationship between the two nations.

"Now the Philippines and South Korea are true partners for mutual cooperation in all fields," said President Park.

The two countries have ties in tourism and exchange of popular culture, creating a connection between the people. "As the two countries' separate cultures become one, the citizens continue to open their hearts to one another," the Korean President also stated.

Banquet guests also had the opportunity to enjoy traditional music from both nations.
