G-Dragon talks about his ‘One Of A Kind’ World Tour Concert in Singapore

G-Dragon, an all-rounded K-Pop star and leader of popular boy group Big Bang, came to Singapore with a bang for his solo concert.

For the first time, the superstar stepped out of Korea for his solo concert around the world, including Singapore. His concert is choreographed with the help of famous choreographers Travis Payne and Stacy Walker, who have previously worked extensively on Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’ tour.

G-Dragon One Of A Kind World Tour Live in Singapore, truly one of a kind, took place on 29 and 30 June at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Dressed with a ‘One of a Kind’ cap, black tee, stylish gold striped pants and black shades, the star spoke with the media and almost froze everyone on ground with his coolness.

This is not your first solo world tour, is there any point of time during this world tour that you miss your band members?

G-Dragon: It is always good to have them around, it is fun with them and I like working with them. When times are hard and I feel a little lonely during my tour, I would really like to have them around. They have been a great support; because those who are available would come down to support me so I’m thankful to them.

You became the first South Korean artist to perform solo in Japan, how did you feel? Was it a plan to set such a record for yourself?

G-Dragon: I’m very happy that all my dome tours in Japan were very successful. This is all thanks to my fans. It has never really been my goal to set records like that but as I go on, my goals become bigger as well. I will continue to work hard to fulfill all expectations from me.

‘One of A Kind’ concert has gotten really great reviews – the dance, the songs, the setup and especially the costumes. What kind of costumes can concert goers look forward to?

G-Dragon: It’s been about three months since I started this world tour, and I have been changing my costumes here and there a little. Particularly, I like the opening costume I have in every tour and it looks cool on stage. I’m sure you guys will like it too.

In the last press conference in Taiwan, you had a really special costume. You were going for an ‘Auntie’ look?

G-Dragon: For the hat that I wore during my last conference, I just like the hat, so I wore it. As someone who needs to present myself constantly to the public, I get the pressure that I always have to show a new look. I’m always trying, but I guess sometimes I tend to overdo it and it could be a little uncomfortable for those seeing it, but I still get your support for me, so I am thankful for that.

There are four different themes to the concert, which theme is the most difficult theme for you?

G-Dragon: All the stars have been there for me during the planning stage, but particularly during the middle and ending part, there is this song where I was under the rain and all. Nevertheless, I really find myself to be part of the music and I can still concentrate in the performance.

One of the themes is a musical theme. What was the idea behind your choreography that had one of the dancers fly across the stage?

G-Dragon: That particular scene is the one that I just mentioned; the one with the rain and nightmare, As a performer, I think it’s important that the music gets visually presented so I try to express the nightmare that I’m in, as well as the lady that I’m longing for in the performance, so that’s why it’s in such a presentation.

During this concert, we have 2NE1 as your special guest; who are your special guests in Korea’s concert as well? What kind of chemistry are you expecting from them in your concert?

G-Dragon: For 2NE1, I like them, just like all other YG artistes, and I trust them with their performance. As this is my last tour, I would like to end it special and I trust them to help me achieve that effect.

Is the style of your new album something like from Big Bang or will it be a very unique G-Dragon style?

G-Dragon: Looking back at all the work I produced, it is all the kind of music that I like. I have always tried to produce something which I like, which may be a little selfish of me, but I hope all of you will like what I like and please continue to support me.

Before concluding the press conference ONE Production’s Mr Ngiam took some time to share his thanks to GD and YG Entertainment‘s Mr Jung, and Live Nation’s Yung Bae. G-Dragon also concluded by saying that he loved Singapore. The press conference ended after a brief photo-taking of Mr Ngiam and G-Dragon.

2NE1 CL’s Lonely New Year’s Day

cl1 cl2

2NE1’s leader CL talked about her childhood in the interview with Naver’s Star Column. Because of her professor father, since she was little, CL had to move between Korea and Japan often. And since she was young, she had a keen interest in dancing and ever since she started training at YG, her passion was at its peak:

“I was being trained for a little less than 2 and a half years at YG. I went to YG studio to practice everyday. I even showed up on holidays, because I didn’t have places to go otherwise. My family weren’t living in Korea back then, and even when they came here, I was so into practice that I didn’t get to seem them. I was just so excited about being exposed to and learning new music. I would stay in practice room all day and go home only when I need to sleep.”

However, her passion for music and dance was always accompanied by loneliness:

“I showed up even on New Year’s day because I had nothing else to do. Yang Hyun Suk (the founder of YG Entertainment) called me and asked me what I’m doing. So I said I’m just listening to music. He told me to come over, so I did and he ordered a bowl of jajangmyeon [black noodle dish] for me. He spends the New Year at clubs but he ordered the food for me before heading to the club.”

Fortunately, it looks like all the hard work really paid off!

MBLAQ’s Cheondung Shows Off His “Manner Legs”

cheondung

MBLAQ’s Cheondung’s “manner legs” photo was posted on Twitter by his sister, 2NE1’s Sandara Park. She proudly wrote “Today, we’re heartwarming sister and brother Dara & Cheondung. Standing on his manner legs for his short sister, whose brother are you? Happy.”

In the photo, to lower his height for petite Sandara Park, Cheondung spread his legs out in a triangle. Many netizens envy their brother-sisterhood: “With the manner legs, they’ve become a heartwarming brother and sister” and “I wish I had a brother like Cheondung.”

MBLAQ’s Cheondung is currently busy with the group’s 5th mini-album, Sexy Beat.

Sandara Park revealed that she is a regular, passionate viewer of Nail Shop Paris. In May, Sandara Park tweeted, “Drinking the miracle drink while watching Nail Shop Paris. Let’s all cheer for Thunder. This moment, right now.”

Upon completing a college festival event in May, the singer also commented, “It was fun attending this spring’s college festival. I’m home now watching Nail Shop Paris. It’s on MBC QueeN Channel,” proving that she is a huge fan of the Drama Nail Shop Paris.

Sandara Park’s younger brother, Thunder, is playing the role of Jin in the show. Even with her busy schedule, the singer is viewing the drama during her spare time, and eagerly promoting it. She also recently mentioned news that she even sent handmade lunches to the drama set.

VIDEO: CL’s Solo Debut “The Baddest Female” Sweeps Charts

Last night (the 28th in Korea) YG super girl-group 2NE1 leader CL unveiled her much anticipated solo debut, The Baddest Female. If we had to compare her the sound to American influencers, I would say Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, and Gwen Stefani had a Korean lovechild and sprinkled it with extra doses of swag and dubstep.

n0js0oG

The track is unlike any other ever produced by a Korean female pop artist — toss out any conceptions you had of cutesy Kpop (a la SNSD and KARA) out the window and get ready for some grimy beats! The song boasts a trap-like sound (intermittent electronic dance music, rap, and hip hop beats), English verses (“Do the Unnie”–umm, Dougie much?) and a hard dubstep drop in the middle.

In a similar fashion, the video itself is an eye-feast of Jeremy Scott creations, gold jewelry, and dip-dyed rainbow hair. Be sure to watch all the way through for surprise YG cameos like Taeyang and…a pants-less G-Dragon? Yup, just when you thought things couldn’t get better.

Since its release last night, the song topped the real-time charts of seven different music charts, including Mnet, Bugs, Melon, Naver Music, Olleh Music, Monkey 3, and Soribada. She also ranks second on Daum Music and fourth on Cyworld Music.

The Baddest Female was written by Teddy Park, YG Entertainment’s main producer, with CL working closely with him.

CL will begin promoting The Baddest Female beginning on June 2 on SBS’ Inkigayo.

Jung Il Woo and 2NE1′s Sandara Park Friends for 4 YEARS!

Jung Il Woo and Sandara Park

Maybe I should actually finish The Return of Iljimae starring Jung Il Woo, since I had no idea Dara from 2NE1 was in it, and that’s how the two of them became friends. It’s true, they met on the set and have been friends ever since. Recently on Twitter Dara was able to convince Il Woo to take a break from studying and join in the Hanyang University festivities, where 2NE1 was performing. At first Il Woo was all like no I have to be a real student and focus blah, blah, but Dara was persistent and finally got him to give in. Way to go Dara!

2NE1′s CL Reveals Plans for Solo Project

CL-2NE1-Nolza-Concert-e1314518032626

On May 28th, the much rumored but until now unconfirmed solo project from 2NE1′s CL will finally take shape. While it’s been confirmed that her single will drop on May 28th, it’s unknown whether this will usher in an entire new album or if this will simply be a one-off. She originally told Billboard back in February that 2NE1 would release a new album in April (yep, that never happened) and then she’d begin work on a solo project, but it seems plans have changed.

She had this to say about her upcoming plans: “I was looking back and thinking, ‘I want to have something personal for me. With 2NE1, it’s not personal because it’s not only about me; it’s about all the members. We’re more about influencing the world. But I have so many things I want to say. I have this other side of me that people didn’t meet in 2NE1.”

Excited for her to fly solo or would you prefer she had followed through on 2NE1 album plans?

Lee Hi’s ‘Secret Live’ is a success!

On May 12th, Lee Hi finally took to the stage solo and performed a total of 16 songs to 500 lucky fans in Sogang University’s Mary Hall. The mini concert, RE-HI, was completely free of charge, and the tickets were given out to winners of the competition which was organised by YG.

The concert was just a small style one, with a live band and although it’s nothing big and spectacular like you’d expect from label mates Big Bang and 2NE1, the audience did seem to enjoy it just as much, one fan even said “I actually liked being able to see her up close in a small area like that”.

Lee Hi is still a rookie, a monster rookie, but a rookie nonetheless, which means that she still has to grow as an artist, and this concert helped her do just that, this was a good opportunity for her to be with her fans, where she could first hand see the support she’s been getting, and at the same time perform songs which she has never performed on stage before such as Am I Strange, and Dream. All the songs she performed are from her album “First Love” part 1 and 2, with the additional songs Mercy, Whistle, Killing Me Softly With His Song and For You.

While Lee Hi was preparing for the mini concert, some netizens doubted her, saying she’s too inexperienced to be on the stage alone, and that she doesn’t have enough fans to pull it off, but although there was only 500 people in the small venue, the fans all actively joined in and had fun whist singing along and shouting out fanchants, proving that even if the concert is small, you can still have a good time!

Lee Hi has now wrapped up her promotions for her album, and will be taking a well earned break for her studies; we’ll look forward to her comeback!
