Hong Sang-soo picked up the best director award from the Locarno International Film Festival for his recent movie, "Our Sunhi", according to film production company Jeonwonsa yesterday

Hong Sang-soo picked up the best director award from the Locarno International Film Festival for his recent movie, “Our Sunhi“, according to film production company Jeonwonsa yesterday. It was a first for a Korean director at the prestigious Swiss event.

Our Sunhi“, stars several character actors who have been regulars in the 52-year-old director’s movies such as Jeong Yu-mi, Lee Seon-gyoon, Kim Sang-joong, Jeong Jae-yeong and Ye Ji-won.

The story revolves around Sunhi, played by Jeong, who meets her ex-boyfriends before going overseas to study.

It was the only Korean movie invited to the international competition section of the festival. It is Hong’s 15th feature-length film, and the first internationally awarded one since his 2010 work, “Ha Ha Ha“, which won the Un Certain Regard prize in Cannes in 2010.

The film will be released on Sept. 12 in Korea.

Meanwhile, the biggest prize at Locarno, the Golden Leopard, went to the Spanish movie “Historia de la Meva Mort” (The Story of My Death), by Alberto Serra.
