K-Pop's Top Stars From Miss A's Suzy To 2NE1's CL Show Their National Pride On Twitter For Korea's Liberation Day Miss A's Suzy was one of several top K-pop stars who took to Twitter and other social media websites on Thursday to express love for their country, 68 years after Korea was liberated from Japanese colonial rule.

Many of K-Pop’s biggest stars took to Twitter and other social media websites on Thursday to express love for their country, 68 years after Korea was liberated from Japanese colonial rule.

In South Korea, the day is known as Gwangbokjeol or “Restoration of Light Day,” when the Japanese leadership agreed to the surrender that led to the end of World War II.

That historic day, known as Victory over Japan Day or Victory in the Pacific Day, took place on August 14 or August 15 depending on which time zone you were in.

The Japanese government formerly surrendered on September 2, 1945 aboard the ship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, Japan.

“It’s Gwangbokjeol,” tweeted actor and Miss A singer Suzy. “Let’s remember the meaning of that day once again.”

“I’m spending Gwangbokjeol in another country,” her bandmate Sunny tweeted.

“I’m proud to be a Korean citizen. I’ll recognize the meaning of today more deeply in my heart, and I’d like to thank all the people who sacrificed themselves for our country. The 68th Gwangbokjeol–I love you South Korea.”

f(x) singer Sulli expressed her nationalism on the site me2day.

“I will try to live out this day with a thankful heart for the martyrs who fought for our nation’s independence,” Sulli wrote. “Let’s put up the Korean flag together everyone.”

Singer Kim Jang Hoon urged fans to study the dark part of Korea’s history that led to the country’s independence on his me2day account.

“Although education on the history of any nation is important, our nation especially has a tense history concerning Dokdo and comfort women as well as territorial issues, so it is even more important. Without history, there can be no future.”

Girls’ Generation singer Seohyun urged fans to spend today thinking about the soldiers whose efforts made Korean independence a reality.

“Everyone, today is the 68th annual Gwangbokjeol,” she wrote.

“I hope you spend a meaningful day with a thankful heart for the fighters and honorable men who sacrificed for South Korea.”

BEAST’s Dongwoon expressed his deep national pride on his Twitter account.

“Today is Gwangbokjeol,” he wrote. “Wherever I go, I carry the pride of being Korean, and I keep the Taegeukgi [Korean national flag] inside my heart.”
